Carrington is a relatively large, rural parish with a small population. The original church was some distance from Carrington itself (as was often the case) but was replaced in the 19th Century by one in the centre of the village. However, this church has been deconsecrated and converted for residential and commercial use. The Old Church, or what remains of it, is now a mausoleum for the Wardlaw Ramsay family of Whitehill, and is referred to as the Whitehill Aisle.
